Josiah Swinney is an accomplished trial lawyer handling cases involving complex criminal allegations. Whether at the trial level or taking over for an appeal, he has represented high-profile matters that have generated public attention and secured successful results for his clients. Josiah's work has earned him the distinction of being selected to Super Lawyers® Rising Stars in 2022, 2023, and 2024. This distinction recognizes the top 2.5 percent of attorneys under 40 based on a formula from Thomson Reuters, a database tracking cases across the United States on the Westlaw legal database.
Josiah graduated with honors from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He began his legal career clerking for Solicitor General Thomas M. Fisher. Josiah most enjoyed drafting for multiple cases litigated in the Supreme Court of the United States, one of which went to oral argument. In addition to the high-profile cases under the Solicitor General, Josiah would advise the Indiana Attorney General about whether Indiana should join cases in other states and federal circuits. Because of Josiah’s success during this clerkship, he earned the esteemed position of Deputy Attorney General, serving his community.
Josiah currently practices in trial courts across Indiana, the Court of Appeals, and the Indiana Supreme Court. You can find his many published wins on Casetext or Westlaw.
